An Actor’s Life for Me?

Cygnet Short Courses
Sadly if you are reading this, you have just missed our 2 Day Acting Short Course – but details below on our 5 day Summer Short Course coming up in August. In the meantime, check out what our recent course attendants had to say about how they found their time here:

“It was thoroughly enjoyable and at a very professional level…It was really lovely how the course could provide high standard training, yet in an non intimidating way…the whole theatre team were very welcoming and made you feel at home..The short course gave me excellent insight into theatre and training. The combination of the two different teachers/trainers each day was really engaging and allowed us to be awakened to a variety of different ways one can approach performance. I would say that I have definitely gained in confidence over the weekend and the course really strengthened my love for acting and performance. I also gained excellent and genuine advice from the trainers, which enabled me to leave the course feeling like I could go on and further my training, using my new found knowledge.
I would definitely recommend the short course to another person.”

Natalie Ling, 2 day short course attendant, March 2014

“I feel more confident about engaging with an audience…I would definitely recommend the course to others…It was great weekend. Thank you!”
Claire Goldstraw, 2 day short course attendant, March 2014

Jonathan Kay 001Jonathan Kay – Getting out of the Audience
Getting out of the audience is an introductory workshop where you can ‘dip your toes into the water’ and find out what it means to Fool on a stage.
This way of theatre is specific to the art of improvised performance using the Fool archetype, because you could say that only a Fool would get up out of the audience, into a space with no props, set design or script and start to perform a play. Getting out of the Audience gives you the opportunity to experience this foolishness, once tasted it draws you in to discover a huge world, which you get to play in, create in and find your Fool in.
The best thing about the workshop is that you don’t have to have performer aspirations. This suits everyone with an interest to explore themselves and the world of the Fool within a performance space. It can be a wonderful catalyst for change, knowledge, growth and fun.

The suggested donation is £125 for a weekend workshop, or £100 concessions

“It was an amazing weekend, one of the most exciting workshops I have participated in. I felt loosened up and it has changed the way I see myself. I haven’t laughed so much in years” Participant – Madeline Bridgett
